What is cosmetic damage coverage?
Aesthetic recomposition is a cover that is included in several types of insurance, such as home, commercial or community insurance. It is also known as aesthetic restoration or aesthetic damage and although the risk covered may vary depending on the type of insurance, the guarantee of aesthetic restoration is similar in all three.
This guarantee is usually optional in our policies for homes, businesses and communities. When it is contracted, it usually appears as a maximum capital for aesthetic restoration. The main objective of the aesthetic restoration is to recover the previous appearance of a room before a loss covered by our insurance policy occurred.
Is it advisable to take out cover for cosmetic damage?
In our opinion, yes. This guarantee should always be included in our insurance policies, because we do not only want the source of the damage and its consequences to be taken care of, but we also want everything to be as it was before. The capital required for this coverage can vary, but the default capital (generally between 1500 and 3000 euros) is usually sufficient.
What elements are usually covered by the cosmetic damage guarantee?
In general terms, all expenses for the replacement or repair of elements, whether or not affected by a loss, which are necessary to restore the stay as it was previously, up to the limit established by the guarantee.
How does the cosmetic damage guarantee work? Some possible scenarios:
- Replacement of elements: If it is possible to replace damaged elements, they shall be replaced with identical ones.
- Similar items: If substitution is not possible, items of similar characteristics and quality shall be offered.
- Compensation: If none of the above options is feasible, financial compensation will be paid.
Some Examples of Covered Claims.
- Broken Bathroom Tiles: Imagine that, in order to repair a covered loss, four bathroom tiles have had to be broken and there are no more replacements available. In this case, the aesthetic replacement guarantee would replace all the tiles on the wall, always within the limit of the coverage.
- Set of Damaged Chairs: Suppose you have a set of chairs, all identical. After a covered loss, one of these chairs is damaged, but the model is no longer on the market. The cosmetic rebuild warranty would replace all the chairs to maintain aesthetic consistency.
Common exclusions for aesthetic damage:
- Windows, Mirrors and Glass: It is common that these elements are not covered by the aesthetic restoration guarantee.
- Decorative elements with artistic value: These are also not usually included in the coverage.
- Exterior elements such as facades: Aesthetic damage to facades and exterior elements of the building is generally excluded.
