At futurseguros we advise on all types of insurance, both in the Balearic Islands and on the mainland and although civil liability insurance is not usually one of the insurance products most in demand by our clients, we believe that it is good for the public to know what it is, because although it can be contracted as a product, it is also part of our home, commercial or community insurance cover.
There are several types of civil liability, in this article we will look at the most common ones.
What is civil liability for?
In short, we can say that civil liability covers the damage or harm that we cause to a third party, whether it is our activity, our home etc.
What types of civil liability are there?
CIVIL LIABILITY OF OPERATIONS: That which derives from the activity, whether the damage is caused by the company’s personnel, machinery or the company’s building.
SUBSIDIARY CIVIL LIABILITY: Damage to third parties caused by acts related to its own activity, when derived from natural or legal persons acting on behalf of the company (A WAITER CAUSES DAMAGE TO A CUSTOMER WHILE WORKING IN A RESTAURANT).
LOCATIVE CIVIL LIABILITY: Protects against damage that may occur to your property while you are renting it to another person or if you operate it yourself (A PERSON SLIPS ON THE FLOOR AND FALLS INTO THE PREMISES).
CIVIL LIABILITY LEGAL DEFENCE: It is the cover that assumes the legal costs in case of third party claims (LAWYERS ETC).
CIVIL LIABILITY BONDS: Guarantees the imposition of judicial bonds on the insured person to guarantee his civil liability or to obtain his provisional liberty in a criminal procedure derived from a claim covered by the policy.
EMPLOYER’S LIABILITY: Covers damages caused by the company itself to its staff, the most classic case would be an accident at work.
PRODUCTS LIABILITY: Damage caused by the product I have created, be it poisoning, defective products, faulty products.
POST WORK CIVIL LIABILITY: Damage caused by a defective work, I am a carpenter, I build a piece of furniture and it breaks causing some damage, this CR usually has a period of validity that is indicated in the particular conditions.
CIVIL LIABILITY FOR OUTDOOR WORK: When the activity is carried out outside the premises.
CIVIL LIABILITY FOR TRUSTED PROPERTY: Protects the damage caused to the goods that have been entrusted to you (they do not belong to the company), this makes sense for example in a garage, a car park, or if we have a business where customers temporarily leave their goods with us.
Although this blog post may be a bit boring, I think it’s especially important for business owners to know what types of liability they have in their insurance and which ones they don’t, since for some activities it may be a good idea to pay a little more and cover, for example, poisoning.
